Lesson 1 - Question 3 'What Others Said About Who He Was'

Who do you believe Jesus is and on what do you base that belief? List the facts that particularly help you know that He is God.

[ugh, what a tough question to answer succinctly ... here goes?] I have a longing - a sense that I can't see everything - there is more to know than what I can see, hear or feel - there is something greater; greater than living and greater than dying - there must be a God somewhere. I find Jesus' words and actions give the clear and accurate portrayal of God. [This will need more elaboration I know] Since I've found Jesus' portrayal of God to be believable [hmm sounds like a blog is needed to look at what Jesus said about God] I believe all He says. Jesus says He is God and I do believe Jesus is God.

[the clock has run out on me for this response but I will have to add to/clarify it as time goes on]

Lesson 1 - Question 2 'What Others Said About Who He Was'

His enemies:
The Jews (John 10:33)
[Well, first of all, "the Jews" are not Christ's enemy. Jesus is a Jew. The scripture reference speaks to how the religious Jewish leadership, evidenced in verse 31, say about Christ.] They said Jesus blasphemed for saying He is God. They said He is a mere man.

Judas (Matthew 27:3,4)
Judas said Jesus was an innocent man.

Pilate (Matthew 27:22,23)
Here Pilate says Jesus is called the Messiah and also infers that Jesus committed no crime.

The Roman solider (Matthew 27:54)
He said 'truly, this is the Son of God.'

Lesson 1 - Question 1 'What Others Said About Who He Was'

His followers:
John the Baptist (John 1:29)
John proclaimed Jesus as the Messiah - the One God sent for reconciliation to Him

Peter (Matthew 16:16)
Peter proclaimed Jesus as the Messiah - the Son of God

How did Jesus respond to what Peter said (verse 17)
Jesus said God revealed this to Peter. Human learning would not have taught this to him.

Martha (John 11:27)
Martha proclaimed Jesus the Messiah send from God.

Thomas (John 20:28)
Thomas proclaimed "My Lord and my God."

How does Christ's response to what Thomas said (verse 29) apply to you?
Jesus said that there is a blessing for those that believe He is Lord and claim Him as their God that have not seen Him with their eyes like Thomas.

Paul (2 Corinthians 5:21; Titus 2:13)
Paul proclaims Christ as the offering for our sin that makes us right with God. Paul further proclaims that Jesus Christ is the glory of God and our Saviour.

Lesson 1 - Questions from 'The Importance of the Truth About His Identity'

1) Suppose Jesus Christ were not God. If He knew He was not God and that none of those claims were true, what could we conclude about Him?
If Jesus knew that his claim to be God was false, he made a deliberate misrepresentation and He was a liar.

2) Suppose Jesus were sincerely wrong. Suppose He sincerely believed all these fantastic claims, even though they were not true. What could we conclude about Him?
If Jesus did not know his claims were false, he was sincerely deluded and He was a lunatic.

3) Why is it important to investigate His claims?

I personally find it important to investigate His claims because since I can remember I've felt some sense that there is a God but wanted to know what that meant (like a fuzzy picture needing focus - like a thirst to be quenched). Jesus talks about God. I need to know what He says about God and test whether what he says holds up under questioning - find evidence of it being true.

Lesson 1 - Question 4 'Jesus' Claims Concering Who He Is'

What characteristics of Jesus are attributes of an omnipotent God?

John 2:24
Jesus knew all men - what is in their hearts.

Matthew 8:26,27
Jesus had control over the elements/creation.

John 11:43-45
Jesus had power over death & life

According to the above passages, Jesus claimed to be God. He made the kinds of claims that only a person who presumed he was God would make. Both His friends and His enemies called Him God, and He never attempted to deny it. He even commended His followers for believing He was God.

Third time's a charm

Here we go with my THIRD blog in just about as many years.

My goal with this one is to blog my answers and sometimes thoughts about a Bible Study published by New Life Publications of Campus Crusade for Christ. I love the study's title: The Uniqueness of Jesus - The Life and Teachings of Jesus.

LET'S GO!!!!

Lesson 1 - Question 1 'Jesus' Claims Concerning Who He Is'
In your own words, write the claims Christ made concerning Himself in the following verses:

Mark 14:61,62
Jesus claims to be the Messiah. The one to sit at God's right hand.

John 6:38 & John 8:42
Jesus claims to be sent from God - to do His will.

John 5:17,18
Jesus claims to be equal with God.

John 10:30
Jesus claims to be one with God.

John 14:7
Jesus claims if you know Him you know the Father.

John 14:8,9
Jesus claims if you have seen Him you've seen the Father.

What did those who heard what Jesus said think He meant? It seems these scriptures are silent on what the hearers were thinking but Jesus' comments suggest they didn't believe Him.
